Cellar Tavern
The Taverna Company is located in Basilicata, in the Metapontino plain, in the municipality of Nova Siri (MT); It extends over an agricultural area of approximately 250 hectares, distributed between the coast of the Ionian Sea and the Matera hills. For three generations the Lunati family has given its company three different production directions: livestock, fruit and vegetables and wine.
In 2005, the Taverna Company took an active part in the birth of the Matera DOC Disciplinary, and can therefore best express the perfect mix between wines with a strong traditional Lucanian imprint and wines from international blends of great depth.
Since 1987 the company has been cultivating native and international vines, having started experimentation with the Enology Institute of Conegliano Veneto on the following varieties: native ones such as Greco and Primitivo, and other non-native ones such as Syrah, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, as well as Montepulciano and Pinot Blanc.
From this experimentation, many varieties have become part of the Basilicata IGT production specifications.
The 20 hectares of vines, both espalier and tent, are located on the sunny hills of the Gulf of Taranto, between the Pollino massif, the sea and the three rivers that cross our province.
The climate is Mediterranean with slow and regular ripening of the grapes; the strong brightness is a peculiar characteristic of our territory.
With the creation of the new cellar in 2007, our company aims to represent a piece of the new Matera viticulture in a careful and innovative way.
