DON ANTONIO 2016 - Primitivo IGP Puglia
It is the result of an experiment that the oenologist and Senator Antonio Michele Coppi, founder of the Coppi wine dynasty, wanted to carry out with his most prized grapes. It immediately amazes with the richness of its fruits that the wine offers in the glass, warm, yet very soft and harmonious.
Grape variety: Primitivo 100%
Alcohol content: 14.50%
Production area: Marchione district, on the Turi-Castellana Grotte road, Puglia.
Type of soil: calcareous and clayey on hilly reliefs
Training system: espalier
Yield per plant: approximately 1 to 4 kg
Year of planting: replanted in the 1990s, where the vineyard had already existed since the early 1900s
Harvest: in the first half of September in company-owned vineyards and with grapes harvested by hand in boxes after careful selection of the bunches
Winemaking: with an innovative technique which involves carbonic maceration for approximately 7-8 days on the one hand, and malolactic fermentation carried out in 100 hl Slavonian oak barrels on the other
Aging: takes place in the same Slavonian oak barrels for 6 months, followed by at least 1 year spent resting in the bottle
Annual production: approximately 50,000 bottles
Serving temperature: 18 - 20° C

TASTING NOTES
Color: purplish red, bright and dense
Bouquet: quite intense and persistent, fine, which immediately amazes for the richness of its fruits, the cleanliness of the perfume in which the vein of spices deriving from the oak and that of the grapes can be felt mixed with great oenological wealth
Taste: warm yet gradually soft and harmonious, in which the tannin is effectively controlled, the acidity supports and is above all freshness and fragrance due to its stupendous olfactory mass, savory, quite full-bodied, rather intense and persistent
Food pairing: from great traditional Italian dishes, such as baked lasagna, Gualtiero Marchesi's saffron risotto, roast turkey to Canadian cheddar cheese soup
Aging capacity: over 10 years provided it is properly stored
